AUDEMARS PIGUET

Royal Oak « série A » full set first owner

ref. 5402st

Thanks to the iconoclast Gerald Genta who had this genius stroke of pen in early 70s Audemars Piguet got its icon and most innovative watch design ever made which became and still is its best-seller. This was already 50 years ago! The most expensive steel diving watch at the time (more than 3x a Submariner!) and certainly very far from the period’s fashionable criterias. Only 2000 pieces of the A series were produced. Imagine how many are still remaining in great condition given how thin the case is! The current timepiece is from a first owner who bought it for its 40th birthday and engraved the date on the back of the watch.

Serial: N• A17xx from 1973

Dial & case: Original (very) small tapisserie 32 lines dial with SWISS only at 6 o´clock (not replacement dial SWISS MADE or replacement blue dial SWISS). This matches the generation of A series in the N°1200-2000 range. The case is thick and sharp indicating a minimal polishing history. Original crown with no brand logo. Diameter = 39mm. Thickness = 6.7mm.

Bracelet: original with engraved AP on one link, correct clasp and rebate generation for this range of A series number. The bracelet is still proudly standing up.

Movement: AP 2121 caliber

Box & papers: comes with its original guarantee paper, its green leather box and cover box and a recent full AP service documentation and AP service box from the German retailer HOLLFELDER.

Rare in this condition and with this wonderful set, this iconic watch should belong to any curated collection.
