The Santos Dumont is arguably one of the most historically significant wristwatches ever made. Designed in 1904 by Louis Cartier for his friend, the Brazilian aviation pioneer Alberto Santos-Dumont, it is widely regarded as the first purpose-built pilot’s wristwatch. To commemorate the 90th anniversary of this seminal piece, Cartier issued in 1994 a strictly limited run of 90 examples in platinum with a salmon dial under reference 1575-1, instantly becoming a benchmark of the brand’s Collection Privée Cartier Paris era.

Dial: gorgeous warm salmon dial with crisp black printed Roman numerals and outer railway minute track. Blued Breguet-style hands (a discreet nod to the original 1904 design) are unique to this anniversary reference. The hidden « Cartier » secret signature is correctly placed at 7 o’clock.
Case: 36mm × 27mm satin-finished platinum case paired with a polished platinum bezel secured by the iconic miniature screws: the unmistakable Santos signature. Case lines are sharp, hallmarks deep and crisply legible. The solid caseback is engraved « Santos Dumont » along with the reference, serial number and the limited edition number XX/90.
Movement: hand-wound calibre 021MC, derived from the legendary Frédéric Piguet 21 — long held as the world’s thinnest mechanical movement at 1.75mm. 18 jewels, 21,600 A/h, 42-hour power reserve. Running strong on the timing machine.
Strap: « Togo » style taupe grained calf leather strap with the original 18k white gold Cartier deployant buckle.
