PATEK PHILIPPE Nautilus 3700/01A
The presented timepiece is an original Jumbo produced in 1978 and sold in November 1979. It comes with its extract from the archives from Sep2010 (a fresh one has been ordered) and its Patek Philippe burgundy leather travel pouch.
Serial/movement: 1,30x,xxx/5.38x.xxx (1978).
Dial: Patek Philippe has asked to the designer Gerald Genta to come up with a deep blue/grey dial reflecting « the true color of the ocean » for this water sports watch. This is exactly how this dial remained with no evolution since 1978. It is mint condition with applied indexes in steel which is pretty rare (estimated 10% of the production). Dial « type 5 » according to scholar mstanga « a study of Patek Philippe Nautilus ref. 3700 ».
The tritium of the original hands is perfectly matching the tritium of the indexes.
Case: magnificent and sharp. The bezel is nicely retaining its initial proportions very characteristic of the Nautilus reference with a porthole pattern.
Bracelet: the most sought after large bracelet (/01A) with 17 links and in good shape still standing up alone. It is estimated that less than 3500 Nautilus ref.3700 were made with this large bracelet /01A.
A beautiful example of a legendary watch that should belong to any serious collection.
