Rolex COMMANDO
ref. 6429
Just try to find another good one!
The 6429 was the cheapest Rolex reference back in the day in late 60’s with a retail price of 108$. The US Army asked for a solid & very efficient watch that would be sold exclusively in US military bases in 1969 but also -strangely- at the now famous retailer Abercrombie & Fitch in 1972 (see the page of advertising picture).
Serial / movement : 2075xxx (1969) / 1225 caliber. All serial for the COMMANDO start with those numbers.
Dial: the 3-6-9 dial is very specific featuring the COMMANDO inscription. The hands are also solely dedicated to this version being « fat stick » shaped to facilitate reading the time.
Case: stainless steel in superb condition. Sharp lugs & thick case as the distance of the holes from the edge is clearly indicating. The original caseback from I-69 is engraved « 6426 » (not 6429) which is also correct for this special reference.
Bracelet: very likely original elastic oyster C&I band typical from US market with clasp from 7-70 matching the period. Condition is excellent.
Box & papers: none
