Iconic and sublim design, the « Big Red » generation of the Daytona certainly helped building the legend of ROLEX as a brand. It is one of its best seller and an analogy with the sports cars universe would say it is the 911 of the wrist! The « Big Red » is the third dial generation of this reference and came after the « Sigma » dial. It was produced from 1975 until 1987.

Serial: 6.15x.xxx (1980)

Dial: absolutely FLAWLESS and very silvery dial. The manually applied « DAYTONA » in red bold sherif font is positioned above the 6 o’clock sub register and is known among collectors as a « Big Red ». All the tritium dots are present (small loss at 2 and 8 o’clock) and they all react well under the UV test (glow green & vanish quickly). The handset is also featuring original tritium luminous.

Case: superb thick case. Lugs and case retain their original shapes and proportions. Satin finish and distance of the holes from the edges on the side of the watch is large & equidistant.

Pushers: MK2 (with circular line) matching the period (switch from MK1 to MK2 around serial 6m).

Bezel: MK3 consistent with this serial and dial generation.

Mouvement: Valjoux 727. Original caseback engraved 6263.

Bracelet: Rolex oyster bracelet 78350/19 with 571 end links. Clasp is engraved I4 standing for april 1984.

Box & Papers: Rolex presentation box, cover box, translation booklet and original hand written guarantee on a punched 720 matching the mexican retailer stamp.

A glorious « floating Big Red »!
