ROLEX PreDaytona 6238 « Silver Grey Sundial »
One of the approx. 3.600 produced from 1961 to 1968 here in a beautifully preserved light grey version. This reference is highly undervalued. It possesses all the design premices of Rolex’s best seller the Daytona expressed here in a more subtle way.
Serial: 1.00x.xxx (1964).
Dial: Light grey in superb condition. Steel index & hands as indicated by the -T SWISS T-. Tritium which has aged into a brownish color is original and matching between the dots and the hands. Dots 3, 4, 6, 7, 8 & 9 have partly melted but the UV test shows they are still perfectly functioning. Original hands including the rare thin & flat hand for seconds.
Case: case & lugs are thick which is unusual for this reference very often too polished. Backcase: 6238
Pushers: original short pump pushers
Movement: Valjoux 72B.
Bracelet: American version of elastic oyster band 6636 with clasp C+I from 78 indicating it is a later bracelet.
