ROLEX PreDaytona tricolor dial ref.6234

One of the approx. 2.250 produced from 1955 to 1963 here in a breathtakingly preserved tricolour dial version. This reference is rare especially in good condition. It sits at the crossroad of the old Rolex style with this busy dial reminiscent of the old chronometer with tachymeter or telemeter functions and yet the case has already the design premices of Rolex’s best seller: the Daytona.

Serial: 5xx.xxx (1960).

Dial: Flawless tricolour dial with no lume. The lack of luminous material is most likely responsible for the lack of alteration of the dial. Due to Rolex policy we can only guess why this watch did not receive any luminous. Some believe it belongs to a special series made for the japanese market particularly sensible to any radioactivity post nuclear bombing. The clasp dated from 1962 also matches the first T SWISS T dials that surfaced. This would explain the specific and seldom seen non luminous hands featured and completing the dial configuration. Whatever the explanation it is a stunning set.

Case: case & lugs are very thick which is remarkable for this reference. Caseback: 6234. Diameter 36mm. Thickness 13.4 with crystal. In between lugs 19mm.

Pushers: pump

Movement: manual Valjoux 72

Bracelet: oyster bracelet ref.7205 matching the original band with a 4 62 clasp which is 2 years older than the serial. 57 end links. 12 riveted links total.

Box & Papers: None
