World Time Minute Repeater Cloisonné…Quartz ref.GN-4-S
Shellman, based in Tokyo, has been a dealer of important watches since 1971. It is known for having created « affordable » quartz movement complication watches in limited editions. Following its ‘Grand Complication’ and its ‘Side Slide Minute Repeater’, Shellman released « World Time Minute Repeater » in early 2000. In 2002 the watch was included as permanent exhibition model at the International Watch Museum in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland and is highly coveted by collectors. Checked by watchmakers in September 2024 all the functionalities work perfectly.
Dial : The dial is largely influenced by Svend Andersen, a friend of Shellman’s president. It was rumoured to be designed by the famous independant watchmaker. It features a hand-finished wired cloisonné enamel world map with Japan positioned in the center with both roman & classic numerals for the dual time display functionality. Because the coloration of cloisonné varies depending on the finishing temperature, it is a highly labor-intensive and valuable dial, with each piece being uniquely finished by artisans by hand, offering a variety of expressions. Nearly 90% of dials are being damaged during production making the good ones particularly valuable.
Case: Made of stainless steel with a brushed finish it is equiped with a side slide mini repeater (sound is admittedly nasal). Cities of the world are engraved on the steel bezel. This one is one of the earliest pieces manufactured N° xx/999. Diameter: 36.5mm. Lugs width: 20mm.
Movement: Citizen Quartz, new battery type 280-44 (SR927W) from September 2024 to power the complication.
Box and papers: Complete original set in a quasi NOS condition. Sticker still on the caseback.
The perfect « wanabee »
