Royal Oak « série A » full set ref. 5402st
Thanks to the iconoclast Gerald Genta who had this genius stroke of pen in early 70s Audemars Piguet got its icon and most innovative watch design ever made which became and still is its best-seller. It was 54 years ago!
The most expensive steel diving watch at the time (more than 3x a Submariner!) and certainly very far from the period’s fashionable criterias.
AP indicates that 1937 pieces of the A series were produced. Imagine how many are still remaining in great condition given how thin the case is!
Serial: N• A1xxx from 1973
Dial & case: stunning and perfect small tapisserie 34 lines dial with SWISS only at 6 o´clock (not replacement dial SWISS MADE). This matches the generation of A series (type 2 dial from ~N°1200-2000 range). Inside the case the number 80xxx confirms it belongs to the A1001-A2000 serial range. Sharp case with minimal polishing history. Original crown with no brand logo. Size = 39mm.
Bracelet: original with double attached hinge, correct clasp and rebate generation for this range of A series number. The bracelet is still standing up revealing a great condition.
Movement: AP 2121 caliber
Box & papers: comes with its original green cube box, blank certificate of origin & guarantee booklet, AP service paper from 2016 and an AP extract from the register.
Rare in this condition, this iconic watch should belong to any curated collection.
