AUDEMARS PIGUET

Royal Oak

Ref. 14700st FULL SET

The Royal Oak was not a blast commercially back in 1972/73. Its proportions were unusual (39mm diameter / 7mm tickness) and its design very iconoclast. It took two years before they could sell the first 1000 pieces. In 1976 Audemars asked Jacqueline Dimier to rethink for ladies the 5402 and the little sisters 4100 (36mm) & 8638 (29mm) were born. It was decided in the late 80s’ to do a newer and better version of the 36mm with the 14700st (1990/91) quickly replaced by the 14790st (1992-2005) and even a 14800st in 1993 (leather bracelet).

Serial: early made N° 065 from 1990, sold in january 1993. Movement: AP caliber 2125.

Dial : the 14700st has a slimmer bezel than its siblings references 4100 or 14790 and its dial is only 1mm smaller than its big sister the 5402. As a result it appears and wears much bigger than its 36mm diameter would suggest making it a very desirable choice for collectors. Its dial is perfect showing no signs of oxydation. The luminous material on the hands and the index is the original tritium.

The current timepiece comes from its first Italian owner who bought from Raymond Jacot in Zermatt.

The overall condition of this timepiece is remarkable. Very thick case with some distance between the hole and the edge on both side. Immaculate dial.

Box & papers: full set with original certificate, box, coverbox, original invoice, letter from the owner.
