F.P. JOURNE PLATINUM CHRONOMETRE A RESONANCE RN

1499.2 (ROSE GOLD MOVEMENT)

In watchmaking some mechanical achievements are elevated to the rank of historical milestone. The current timepiece is the execution of a concept refined by Abraham-Louis Breguet who created double pendulum regulators functioning with the phenomenon of what Journe called « Resonance » as a reference to the sound of musical strings. It consisted in positioning two balance wheels sufficiently close to each other (that means VERY) so that the « dissipated energy of each is caught by the other leading to a unique type of frequency regulation » as Journe puts it himself. The first wristwatch Résonance was born in 2000. The presented timepiece is the second generation of movement made of gold instead of brass for the earlier version: the 1499.2 called « Résonance nouveau » (RN). It is a transitional reference as it was only produced in 2005 and 2006 which makes them rarer than the first generation (2000-2004).

Case: the case of this second generation was enlarged from 38mm to 40mm. This one is in platinum while the movement is made of rose gold. The flat and chiselled winding crown is oddly positioned between the lugs at 12 o’clock (you will leave a bit of skin winding it) and the second crown at 4 o’clock helps synchronising the two seconds’ hands.

Dial: the dial is a breathtaking sand like textured white gold flanked with white guilloché subdials with blued hands. Unlike many other Journe’s references the Résonance features a very balanced dials respecting the spirit of the movement concept. The power reserve expresses the number of hours elapsed since the watch was wound.

Bracelet: original F.P. Journe black alligator leather strap + second F.P. Journey grey alligator leather strap with its platinum buckle.

Box and papers: original guarantee from the « Montres Journe S.A. Geneva » boutique sold right before Christmas 2006, chronomètre à Résonance leaflet, original box and cover box.

Fabulous opportunity to seize a rarely surfacing transitional Resonance belonging to any curated collection.
