PATEK PHILIPPE Chronograph Perpetual English Calendar 3971EJ full set
Heir of the magnificent line of Patek Chronograph Perpetual Calendar the 3970 succeeds to the famous 2499. In order to conjure the fate of the 80s, when quartz was shacking the established horological codes, Patek decides to impose a traditional come back to the « noble » 36mm size. Alongside the 3970 with solid case back Patek produced a similar but rarer 3971 featured with a sapphire case back. Only about 270 were made. From 1986 until 1988 the 3971 had a snap-on back. From 1987 until 1990 it becomes waterproof thanks to a screw-down sapphire case back and the reference becomes 3971E (E stands for « étanche » meaning waterproof in French). The presented timepiece is one of the latest produced from July 1990 and sold in June 1991.
