Glossy Gilt Meters First «Underline»
Produced from 1963 to 1985 the 5513 is one of the best seller of the Rolex family. The present watch is an important example from late 1963 with a very specific meters first gilt lettering dial: the underline!
Serial: 1,01x,xxx (1963/64)
Dial: super glossy gilt dial. Respecting international regulation for radiation Rolex had to change the luminous material of its dial BUT did not want to throw away the existing inventory. They decided to apply a line on the dial to signal tritium luminous on a « SWISS » dial signaling the presence of Radium before 1962. This underline is often in white/silver as featured in this stunning timepiece. Indexes glow & quickly vanish under UV light. Hands have probably been replaced and they are no longer luminous.
