ROLEX Explorer Tropical dial ref.1016
Offered here one of the most iconic watch of the Rolex universe: the Explorer. This reference 1016 was introduced in 1960 until 1989. It is the heir of the watch Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay carried to conquer the Everest in 1953.
Serial: 1.1xx.xxx (1965)
Dial: a fabulous open chapter tropical dial to be seen in person! From the center to the right of the dial a gradual golden hue has developed providing a pleasing warm impression. The tritium of the indexes is untouched and functions perfectly lighting green and fading away quickly. The gilt font is what Hokinkee called « Type 5 » in their in-depth and appears handwritten « Looney Tunes » or like.
Case: was polished in the past but retains its original proportions. Caseback is the original one engraved «1016 » and « I65 » meaning first quarter 1965 matching the serial.
