AUDEMARS PIGUET

Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar

Glossy Black Dial

Ref. 25654st

The perpetual calendar of AP was developped in 1981. It was put in a Royal Oak case in 1984 with the ref. 5554 which quickly switched its reference name for 25554. The present watch belongs to the successor reference : the 25654 which shares the same aesthetic but fixed the waterproof problem of its predecessor thanks to a tad thicker case. This beauty is proposing for many the best of both worlds: a true complication encased in a design masterpiece 39mm sports watch. Production years ranged from 1982 until 1993 but this reference was offered for sales for a longer period between 1983 until 1998. Out of a total production of 800 pieces in all metal combined, only 272 were made in steel. 422 in yellow gold, 72 two-toned, 33 platinum and 1 white gold.

Dial: exceptionally rare. Possibly the rarest of them all: smooth glossy sapphire black dial with no tapisserie and MK1 small letterings. Original « needle hands » for hours/minutes and steel small hands for subregisters.

Case: Likely never polished the 9.3mm thick case has certainly retained all that impressive thickness! Stunning. Original crown without the AP logo. The bracelet is still firmly standing up revealing its tight condition.

Serial: D40XXX-XXXXX-N°931 from May-1994.

Movement: AP caliber 2120/2800 aka the thinnest self-winding movement in the world until 2019 when the new AP perpetual calendar was released.

Box & papers: fresh AP certificate of authenticity from august 2020 mentioning the glossy black dial (« cadran laqué » in French) original to the watch.

Simply a very important « quantième perpetual » sitting on the pinacle of beauty and rarity among the Audemars Piguet world.
